From the time Minolta introduced its new
logo and look, it fought its way from a weak
number four in sales to a very strong number
two. Now it was time for a bold move to take
over the number one position in the market. To
do this, they had the right product... the first
complete working autofocus SLR SYSTEM ever! It
was an exciting product with over 300 new
patents covering its revolutionary technology.
And it was necessary to make sure the market and
the dealer network were fully aware of this new
technology and the sales opportunity it
represented.
We needed a show that could be used at a press
conference in New York City. And that show
needed to be presented to the sales force at a
National Sales Meeting. AND that show needed to
be the centerpiece of a 10 city, US and Canada
road tour to present the new camera to large
number of dealers. It needed to inform and
motivate the various audiences.
 Produced,
staged, and toured by Minolta's internal
production group, this show premiered at a press
conference in New York City, followed the next
day presented to a national sales meeting for
the Minolta sales force. When the sales meeting
was finished, the show and several key
executives immediately went on tour to seven US
and three Canadian cities. Dealer audiences of
500 - 1000 at each location were energized by
the new product, and immediately did exactly
what was expected, took Minolta to #1 in
imported camera sales in the US.
The show then went on to win a Gold Cindy with
the Association of Visual Communicators, a
Silver Hugo at Intercom - The Industrial Film
Festival, and a Bronze Medal at the New York
International Film and Video Festival.
